\"Just living is not enough,\" said the butterfly, \"one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower.\"
HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN
To look through my extensive collection of larger than life canvases today, one would probably be able to appreciate the personal struggle & self analysis, the wrestling with my conscious. Being a frustrated, inactive, activist for all manner of injusticies, whether human rights, power abuse, tyrannial regimes or any gender related bigotry or the futility of religious wars, it took an endless series of attempts to find the voice with my brush & knife to commicate the best way I know how, to support the work of thousands of selfless, couragious people, putting themselves in the front line against those who insist on erradicating all that is moral, good & decent. With each canvas I dig deeper into my psyche, each time increasing the volume, standing each time on a higher plateau till the messages are all too plain & clear.
Military paraphanalia adorning the characters by way of military caps, epaulets & medals symbolize both the abuse of authority & at the same the victims of that same authority. The pseudo-democracy most us live under, whilst our ?leaders? denounce the dictatorial regimes with condemnations, as if a farsical election held every 4 or 5 years that brought them their opportunity of dictatorial status, justified invasions, golden parachutes & other self gratifying abuses. On the other hand, the victims I spoke of earlier, who are in the front line paying for their loyalty with their lives whilst being led into battle from the desk of inexperienced politicians & others with alterior motives.
The grotesque figures, at times the oppressor, at times the exploited as with Comrades. Too often we don´t take the time to look past the outer shell, the label or disguise, behind which there often lurks a surprising reflection of oursleves & what we are seaching for in others.
Living creatures personifying emotions & basic insticts are scattered throughout the works in conjucting with exposed, vulnerable human forms, almost exclusively in women form, the most vulnerable of all, to depict the struggle of the human race against themselves. Sometimes triumphant,as in Destiny, sometimes doomed as in Fight for Freedon & cases where one just sits tight & hopes the waves of corruption & hypocracy will ride over them, as in Survivor, in their endevour the face another new day, another stuggle. Not fighting against the current, but also not submitting to it. One of the first works I produced was Destiny. It is the work that most personifies me. In search of my destiny, carrying the burden of responsability, in whatever form that may take & happy to to know or be acquainted with any loyal, benevolent souls, in whichever form they come in also. The works are strewen with sarcasm & black humour matching together unlikely characters & creatures.
